IS THE POTENTIAL COLLAPSE THE PROBLEM?
IS THE POTENTIAL COLLAPSE ON THE UN-HELMETED HEAD THE PROBLEM?
It's 2009 and we wonder why some Firefighters and or those supervising them just don't get it?
We have NO PROBLEM with taking a risk that's worth it...but this? Come On.

This pic was taken when my company responded mutual aid on a smoke investigation. Notice the placement in relation to the building. Also the overhead power lines which the radio antena is touching.

Live Fire Training Pictures - The Real Story
Tuesday, November 25, 2008
-
This is in regards to the picture that was sent  of the burning furniture. This is one of several pictures that were taken to educate and document for future training just how fast these types of furniture burn. The actual burning took place at the end of a very successful acquired structure training exercise. WE had several fire evolutions within this structure and then staged the furniture fire. Several couches were placed near each other and a small pile of newspaper was ignited. within 45 seconds the fire was rolling across the ceiling. No persons were in the structure at the time, the camera person was in the doorway and we had 2  13/4 lines charged and staffed to protect him. The structure was allowed to burn down after this evolution. No persons were allowed back inside and no one was injured.
We were able to show a lot of firefighters just fast these items will burn and why it is important to be fully bunked out, PPE complete.  I've attached several of the pictures showing ignition until roll over.

Please remember when conducting Live Fire Training in accordance to NFPA 1403 - material such as couches, mattresses are not to be used and have lead to line of duty deaths in Osceola County, FL and Lairdsville, NY.

BUT MAKE SURE WE THINK.....
......before loading firefighters, firefighter families and or citizens on the fire apparatus.
MAKE SURE your FD is covered if something goes wrong...What's the liability?
Who authorizes non-FD members to ride? Who is responsible?
And if WE have to be seated and belted at all times....well then.....

Are we a bunch of SCROOGES?
Nah-just looking out so we can learn from what OTHER FD's had gone thru.
